Two Week Bolt On Guitar Building Workshop

• Day 1: Introduction and Selecting Materials

  • Explain safety guidelines for using tools and materials.

  • Practice tool use with test cuts

  • Joint and glue body material

  Day 2: Begin Body Build

  • Trace and cut out the body shape from wood using a bandsaw

  • Route neck pocket and pickup cavities using a plunge router

  Day 3: Body Shaping and Sanding

  • Using Hand tools and abrasives carve the tummy cut and arm bevel

  • Sand the body in preparation for finishing

  Day 4: First Day of Body Finishing Process

  • Fill the wood grain pores

  • Sand back the grain filler

  • Apply sealer and all coats of finish

  • Leave for 5-7 days to Cure

  Day 5: Neck Wood Preparation

  • Slot Fretboard

  • Cut Neck Profile

  • Install Truss Rod

  • Glue Neck to Fretboard

Day 6+7: Weekend Break

• Students take a break. Fishing expeditions and island explorations can be scheduled

Day 8: Neck Shaping and Fretboard

• Install Fret Position Markers

• Begin Neck Shaping and carving

Day 9: Fret Installation

• Press in Frets

• Clip, Dress, Level, Bevel, Crown and Corner frets

Day 10: Final Neck Shaping

• Sand neck in preparation for finishing

• Sand and buff guitar body

Day 11:  Assembly Day

• Attache Neck to Body.

• Align and install hardware

• Wire Electronincs

Day 12: Final Setup

• String the guitar.

• Adjust truss rod, set action and intonation
